Imago Dei House
Living the Truth!
The Place for Priests, Male Religious, & Discerning Laymen
Located in the pastoral recesses of a working farm, Imago Dei House provides residential programs for priests, religious, and men in discernment who wish to enter upon a unique ascetic, scholastic, and psychomoralitic program of study and formation. Together with Imago Dei mentors these men learn about and journey upon the Imago Dei Way of Christian manhood, and deepen their commitment to Christ by living, working, and studying together within a program of Christian cultural, academic, and spiritual formation. Men stay from one week of intensive retreat to a year of sabbatical and advanced studies.
During their time in the house, residents are formed in the Imago Dei Way where above all they learn to open themselves to the action of Christ in their lives, thus allowing the Lord to speak to each one personally. This is done via a psychomoralitic process of soul-deep openness to reality, cognitive education in and assent to truth, and volitional choosing of the good. Upon this psychomoralitic process builds the Faith, where the ego decreases so that Christ may increase. The integral sum of this psychomoralitic and sanctifying Imago Dei Way process is living the truth in a coherently and uncompromisingly Christian life.
In the Imago Dei Way each young man is encouraged to first embrace his crucial human vocations as a psychomoral being created in God's image and called to be a seeker of truth, as an incarnate being called to manhood, and as a social being called to familial and societal relationships and duties. Upon theses natural vocations the directee is further encouraged to embrace his essential Christian call to holiness and his subsequent specific call to the lay, religious, or priestly state.
Imago Dei House is a response to today's unprecedented dysfunction and destruction of the family and the corollary absence of authentic Catholic milieus and cultures. In accord with God's economy of grace (where sin abounds grace abounds more, and the promulgation of error is answered by the more definitive promulgation of truth) today's call is for the definitive restoration and renewal of that which is the specific product of the family and a wholesome culture. These products are maturation, moral development, and the distinct charisms of gender.
The small cohort that make up IDI are both mentees and mentors, all engaged upon the Imago Dei Way. Though all members of Imago Dei House are engaged in the Imago Dei Way they represent a spectrum of psychomoral, and spiritual conditions: from those struggling with issues of inner mal-being to those desiring the inculcation of Catholic manhood, to those who seek to plummet the depths of the spiritual life. Remarkably, it is often from both ends of the inner well-being spectrum—from the turmoil of mal-being to the piercing peace of mature well-being—that are found those most open to the Imago Dei Way.
Though the cohort is formed cyclically throughout the year admissions are limited. This is due to the great care taken to have the proper admixture of members to best facilitate the conversional and/or psychomoralitic dynamics entailed in progressing upon the Imago Dei Way.
Imago Dei Institute further inculcates the Imago Dei Way by maintaining a traditional Benedictine monastic milieu and drawing on the spirituality and pastoral theology of the Holy Doctors of the Church. Fully integrated into this milieu and spirituality is the cutting edge conceptualization for moral mentoring and spiritual intervention known as Psychomoralitics. Psychomoralitics utilizes Thomistic anthropology, natural law, ancient wisdom, and cutting edge science to restore essential inner well-being, deep characterological, moral, and spiritual transformation. Psychomoral, philosophical, and catechetical classes round out the Imago Dei curriculum. There is prescribed homework and evaluations of mastery of material. Spiritual exercises (e.g., Mass, Rosary), manual work (e.g. gardening) and recreation (e.g., hikes) are extracurricular. Residents may as well enroll in online Catholic college classes, work towards certification in psychomoralitics, or work on their own scholarly pursuits.
